I see the BBC is having to make more cuts.
How about shutting down Radios 1, 2 and 3? There are so many commercial stations doing it as well or better.
I used to listen to Radio 2, but have virtually given it up now. Dreadful.

Granted not having ads is a major benefit, (especially not having the incredibly irritating ads that seem to want to put everyone they're inflicted on, off the company concerned) but even so, for day to day listening I have different radios, (car, bathroom, living room, etc.) tuned long term to different independent stations, as they cover the music I want to hear, best.
That said, I'd be disappointed if the BBC stations went off air. The choice to tune in is something I think worth keeping. In many ways it's probably a mistake to treat radio differently to TV, in that one channel hops TV from one station to another whereas radio tends to be left on one station. But I suspect that TV is more a prime entertainment whereas radio is more often used as background and one is then less attentive.
Just out of interest does anyone know how they get accurate listening figures (for any station)?
Always puzzled me.
As for the BBC, they are a State broadcaster paid for with taxes they should be doing the fundamentals and not competing with commercial stations for viewing figures. If anything they should be for the wider more outlying things, but then again I suippose the BBC would end up playing Mad Mullah music.
My internet radio ceased to work when the supplying company decided to upgrade their system. On contacting them I was told that was the issue, that the internet part of my radio was now defunct for that reason, but I could have a discount on a new one if I was daft enough to trust them ever again. This was exactly what I was concerned would happen when I first received it and only then realised the radio didn't have the ability to search the net on it's own but was made dependent on their server, something unclear at the time of purchase. Never again.
Shutting down Radio 1, 2 and 3?
Can't see that being very popular:
