Hosta Plant pests

What is eating my hosta - it is not slugs or snails but has bite marks on the leaves and holes. I cannot see anything but have tried re-potting and spraying with a mild insecticide but each morning a bit more leaf has been eaten away.

How can you be absolutely sure that it's not slugs or snails? They are the main culprits of nibbled hostas, coming out at night, sometimes covering quite a distance in order to get their favourite meal. Try nipping out with a torch after dark, you just might catch them in the act!

Could it be a rabbit? More likely to be a large slug though.

We used to have this problem every year with our Hosta, then I hit on a brilliant idea. I now sit the plant on a redundant upturned, flat bottomed, green wire hanging basket & have not had a single nibble in two seasons - neither have the slugs! Our Hosta is absolutely beautiful & in full bloom.

Obviously its hard to say for sure unless a leaf can be seen, but it could be Vine Weevil. When you take it out of the pot, have you seen white curly magots? (like little white balls). Take another look and check. These are the grubs that eat the roots and kill a plant. The adults eat the leaves.
