We had to get our water from bowsers and tankers during the 70s, no tap water for at least a couple of weeks.  I remember it well, the long queues.

What evidence do you have to suggest that incidents like this would not have happened if the water industry had remained in public ownership?

As above, I recall water supplies being interrupted many years before privatisation.

Difficult to have backup systems (other than bottled water which they are doing) so if something goes wrong and cant be fixed easily then this sort of thing happens.  Always did, always will.

Nothing at all to do with privatisation.

Although IMHO water should not be in Private hands.

I quite agree, youngmaf.

In fact I'd go further and suggest that domestic water supply should be paid for from general taxation. It's the one thing we all must have and we all use (roughly) the same amount of it.

All sorts of stuff is provided from the general fund, a great deal of it not vital to life. Water is vital and any "caring government" should provide it.
