Happy New Year ABers!

Not a clue question, just requiring confirmation that we only have to shade (choosing words carefully) a "representation" of the five first words, and not all instances. Thanks for any and all thoughts.

P.S. No money anymore, John Lewis vouchers up for grabs now from the Speccy.

Thanks very much

I thought that this puzzle was quite hard with some odd clues

Like i dont really  see that 6 down works? how is that puts on new clothes?

JohnP, glad we could help. The last five letters of 6 D mean 'to dress', it's in Chambers. The first two letters indicate doing it anew.

To 'tire' is archaic for to dress (now, attire).

I'd never heard of the meanings of the aforementioned words but they're definitely worth remembering.

Thanks!

In the preamble, 'the first word of the five' would have made things clearer

I expect Fieldfare wanted to keep that vague.

Maxxer, I think your version would have taken away the element of surprise, I liked the little bit of sneakiness!

A toughish puzzle, I thought with a couple of unfamiliar and unusual phrases (to me at least). I still find it annoying, however to have to own specific references in order to complete a puzzle
