People with Crohns Disease are at increased risk of developing gallbladder problems, however I have not read about any connection with IBS.
I would go to the doctors if you are concerned about your burping/breath as I am sure all will be fine. And tell your friend to stop scaring you ;o)

I have a friend with very sever IBS and he has the same problem, but very badly, not just when he burps. It can make it rather hard to be around him as he doesn't seem to smell it and takes the attitude that people should just accept that this is how he is. Work-wise it has also caused him big problems. Being a friend I did bring the subject up with him and apparently he was told by a nurse that this is common in IBS sufferers and that he should ask his doc tor help, but he never did. I would suggest you talk to your GP about this and see if there is something he can suggest. Otherwise, if you are going to see your specialist anyway at some time ask him / her. Best wishes. :o)

Second, which may help twofold you can buy oil of peppermint capsules from most health food shops, these reportedly help with some IBS symptoms as peppermint is a natural aid to digestion. They will also 'sweeten' your breathe.
