Someone, somewhere on another thread (Hymie?) seems to think that Putin is blackmailing Trump with some videos of him   in flagrante delicto with a hooker in a Moscow hotel.

If you choose to sit back and rely on Trump and putin to keep world peace and the above you would be a fool.

Trump has proven for a second time around that he himself is a dictator, the first, insitgating a riot on his own state capital along with loss of life. The above is on par with the action of Putin the dictator, who murders anyone who threatens his position by way of a fair and proper elections.

Trumps reason for wanting an end to the war in Ukraine is on the grounds of loss of life, if you believe that you would also be a fool, he couldnt care two hoots about anyone other than himself. Putin also has little to no value in human life.

It really is Europe's problem to solve.  But so far no-one in Europe has moved this conflict closer to ending.  By withdrawing support for Ukraine, Trump is putting pressure on all countries in Europe (ours included) to get our big boy pants on and not expect the US to bail us out all the time.  Starmer would do worse than to ramp up our defence budget for starters.  Unlikely to happen.

So... the claim is that Trump is having a fit of pique and behaving abominably because a foreign country decided to keep it's mouth shut about possible events it didn't want to speak about ? Maybe that does fit with Trump's situation.

 

If Trump is really worried about loss of life, and that isn't just the feeble excuse it seems, it doesn't explain his statements; but more than that, all he needs to do is persuade Putin to fall back and stop invading; after all Trump claimed he had a plan to stop the war, and capitulation doesn't count as a plan (although it might seem to be so to a weak leader with no ability to spot likely consequences).

 

Meanwhile there are further embargoes that could be applied to screw down the invader's economy.  There is only so much that even a society as cowed and ill informed as Russia's, will put up with. And vessels ignoring any embargo could be harassed and stopped. After all, the US is the world's major power block, who would do more than simply protest ?
