The Huge Risks Facing Starmer At Trump Meeting
//When Sir Keir Starmer visits the White House next Thursday, he will be treading a fine diplomatic line.
He will want to maintain his support for President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine's government. But he will also want to gain the ear of President Donald Trump over the talks he has begun with Russia to end the war.
All this while keeping out of the venomous verbal crossfire between Washington and Kyiv.
That will be no easy task.
Transatlantic relations are in pieces. The US president has upended America's longstanding support for Ukraine and sidelined Europe in the process.
US defence secretary Pete Hegseth says European security is no longer a US priority. Vice-President JD Vance attacks the very nature of European democracy.
It is into this cauldron of ideological enmity that Sir Keir will seek a hearing when he meets the president and his team at the White House.
So what can and should the prime minister do?//

To be fair using zoom to talk to the President of the United States (whoever it is) is a bit insulting. I have always found getting of my backside and going to see people the best. It can be very draining though and not quite the jolly people think. I went loads of times to Paris but the only time I really saw the Eiffel Tower was with her indoors.
starmers a pen pusher lawyer, 0 credibility on transatlantic negotiations, he is so out of his depth, i see him as a posh old school brit dealing with a hardened wall street muscle take no prisoners business man, and trumps a live wire, survived assassination attempts so he thinks he is unstoppable, for good or bad it's kier is no good for the uk, i see a new world order in the making, kier is a nobody pen pusher, and in a party thats ruining the uk.. plus were nobody really to america.
"Wasnt that Pie boy Lammy?"
Yes it was. But I'm sure his boss will want a piece of the action (or chicken).
Fender is right. Mr Starmer is out of his league. He is also out of his comfort zone.
He is a lawyer dedicated to Human Rights. He is used to persuading compliant judges, who are mainly sympathetic to his cause, to agree with whatever ridiculously weak and (to most people) outrageous arguments he puts forward on behalf of mainly undeserving clients.
He will be torn to shreds by Mr Trump and his team. They have a clear policy of doing nothing which is not in the best interests of the USA.
Mr Starmer does not seem to have much of a policy which addresses the best interests of the UK. This country seems to feature as a bit of an afterthought (if it features at all) in his plans.
Best he develops a bad cold or 'flu and is declared unfit to travel.
