I can't understand why anyone goes potholing. I've been in plenty of 'touristy' caves and tunnels but would not squeeze myself in to the unknown.

Rock climbing. Scrambled over a few rocks up peaks on long hikes, but climb up a sheer face? Not on your nelly.

Hockey, lacrosse, hurling. Don't mind contact sport, used to enjoy rugby, but not with weapons and hard little balls.

Gliding. I can see the appeal of silently flying over the countryside - but I've sat squashed in those flimsy oversized model planes. That's enough

 How about you?

Two that spring to mind, surfing. Why paddle out, wait for the right wave to bring you back and stand up whilst doing that? Diving, from a great height into a teeny drop of water? No,thank you very much.

Question Author

I've seen some almost unbelievable photos of surfing. Never fancied it. Paddle boarding looks easy on still water but I bet you need to be fit.

I have dived off the high board but couldn't do it now, I've lost my head for heights

I've done some "adventure" sports over the years - rock climbing, mountaineering, caving, paragliding, skiing, etc. But now I'm more or less out of it.

The thought of potholing fills me with dread - I'm sure I would be disabled by claustrophobia.

I've always hated team sports - rugby particularly.

I parascended over the sea on holiday one year but that isn't adventurous. I enjoyed it though

Given that i am afraid of heights, i quite surprised myself while in the army by abseiling down a cliff face in Wales. Jagged rocks awaited anyone who fell but, once i had 'pushed out' a couple of times, i got more and more adventurous, kicking out harder and therefore abseiling just that bit lower.

My first attempt didn't go too well, though. The top of the cliff was a overhang and i had no sooner cleared that major obstacle, my safety rope snagged. I shouted up to the instructor that i couldn't go any further.

Knowing my fear of heights, he assumed that i was bottling out and he shouted encouragement down to me. To emphasise that i couldn't go any further, i spread my arms out wide - a definite no-no when abseiling.

He and another instructor hauled me back up the cliff to discover that the safety rope had been tied incorrectly. Having graciously accepted their apologies, i flew down that cliff face and wanted to do it all over again.

I wouldn't go pot-holing at the point of a gun.

Potholing? No way. I feel claustrophobic just putting my head under the bed to find a lost item.

I can't go into water above waist height.

I have done a bungee jump just for the 'thrill'. Never again.

A bungee jump? Oh, bruvver,  Clover!!

I played hockey for 2 years, was pretty good at it, talks of intercounty etc but I wasn't that interested.

Whenever I watch athletics, I always wonder how contestants chose pole vaulting. Not a sport I would contemplate.

Football,   bah!

What people see in it is a complete mystery to me.

Bungee jumping! No. Just no.

I was very sporty at school.  On school Sports Days a good javelin thrower and an excellent batter and catcher in my House rounders team, but I've never won a running race in my life.  I always played tennis at school and for the school netball team, and after I left played for the 'old girls'.  I've always liked swimming and I scuba dive (warm water only!), but I've never had an interest in 'domestic' hobbies - sewing, cooking, and craft type things - although I do paint and play piano - but neither to a high standard.

My husband is into all sorts of sports.  Rugby, scuba diving (he's a PADI instructor), long distance cycling,  and he's a regular kite surfer.  He likes anything that wafts a bit of a challenge his way.  He's bungee jumped, parachuted out of airplanes, and driven on rallies.  I have three garages full of various sports and hobby equipment - and personally I think he's barmy.

Landing a microlight in a 30 knot crosswind  with a 45 deg approach angle is good fun, as is engine out training at 3000 feet.

I spent my youth gliding - absolutely hated it but it pleased my father!!

Lacrose and hockey did at school much preferred netball and athletics!

As for the rest of your question, I too would never do potholing the fear is too real the same for anything involving unstable floors and heights - I feel nauseaus and breakout in a cold sweat going up in a glass elevator!

Isn't potholing the main tactic of the anti-sprout brigade?

Question Author

I think I'd enjoy scuba diving if I didn't have to wangle myself in to a wetsuit

Do you need to wear a wet suit if you are somewhere warm ?

Question Author

I don't know.  I've only seen scuba divers in wetsuits, even in hot weather.

A wetsuit helps keep your body parts together after the shark attack. 🤣

DDIL, not necessarily.  I've rarely worn a wet suit in the Caribbean or the Red Sea.
