I'm starting to warm to the chancellor. She's bang on it should be more than possible to reduce the civil service bill by 15%.

....and the pension they can get anyway so that makes no difference. I've now retired but my old firm has continual shake ups the first of 4 this year already taken place. It's a huge saving. The argument that making them redundant is more expensive than keeping them on doing unnecessary jobs is fatuous at best.

Who said it's more expensive?

Question Author

DDIL was making the case above that laying people off was more expensive than keeping them on, see 13:51

She made up some fantasy about them getting 4 years salary.

TTT, they were offering seniors 16 months salary recently to leave a department, not one member of staff had more than 10 years service.

That doesn't match with your information.

I am getting fed up with you calling me a liar Tora.

Stop now.

Question Author

14:14 I have not called you a liar, you are mistaken. Just google it like I did. The most they get is 12 months salary.

Voluntary redundancy will be a month's salary up to a maximum of twenty-one month.

Question Author

14:12 "TTT, they were offering seniors 16 months salary recently to leave a department," - ok but that is not the standard policy, they may choose to offer enhance settlements but that is not the default and it's certainly is not 4 years worth.

You have pursued a specious argument now have the grace to own up and stop wriggling.

NI Civil Servants

"Voluntary Redundancy

Below normal pension age - one month’s pay per year of service up to 21 months. All staff will be given three months’ notice."

https://www.finance-ni.gov.uk/articles/compensation-voluntary-or-compulsory-redundancy-and-cscsni-scheme-rules#:~:text=Scheme%20(Northern%20Ireland)-,Voluntary%20redundancy,a%20maximum%20of%20six%20months.

Most job losses will be by early retirement IMV & that is much more costly than redundancy.

6 months ago a member of staff in Belfast was made redundant as their job no longer existed they received a pay off of 46 months.

Hence my quote'up to'

This is not the first time you have called me a liar.

I also have the decency to call you by your AB name please have the manners to do the same to me.

I bet many won't be bound by redundancy limitations, they will negotiate much more generous compensation terms under the voluntary exit scheme.

Question Author

barry " they will negotiate much more generous compensation terms under the voluntary exit scheme.!"

Only if they are indeed "voluntary" why would they be? All that does it get rid of the best people, they take the dosh and get another job. Very silly to do that, just get rid of the dead wood and the useless, no shortage of those in the public sector. VR is largely discredited in the private sector though I suppose this government are dim enough to do that.

//just get rid of the dead wood and the useless, no shortage of those in the public sector. //

Evidence please?

Question Author

My first job was in the public sector, trust me.

No I won't. Sorry.

How many years ago was that? Do you have any recent personal experience of working in the public sector?

Question Author

stop wriggling me old china, it's getting embarrassing love.

You don't happen to work in the civil service do you?

I spent 24 years working as a civil servant - it is not an easy job (or mine wasn't) and the pay is not very high.  It was stressful and draining.  It isn't a bed of roses as some appear to think.

I last worked on 31.10.2003 and cannot work due to my health.

i do not believe a word this weak, pathetic gov says
