Just experienced two earthquakes about half an hour ago. The nearest epicentre was  a 4.9 quake and the other one, a big one was a little futher away but was 7.7.

The house shook and it felt like I was drunk - but everything OK and no structural damage. Seemed to go on for quite a few seconds though!

That must be rather frightening JJ

Just felt giddy and wanted to fall over. I thought it was just me until I realised it was an earthquake! Very strange feeling!

Where do you live JJ, if you don't mind me asking. Have you experienced earthquakes before?

Where was this??

Question Author

I live 30 kilometers north Of Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand) The smaller of the two quakes epicentre was near the Myanmar/Thai border, not too far away from me. The larger quake's epicentre was further away, in central Myanmar, but it was that much stronger!

I have experienced earthquakes before but only 2 or 3 on the Richter scale. These today were stronger than the ones I have experienced before!

Read about this on the BBC.

Hope no-one was having a quick dip in the rooftop pool at the time.

It must be upsetting to experience an earthquake. my thoughts are with you and your neighbours. Stay safe.

Now why didn't this thread come up when I did a search on earthquake before generating my own post.  What's the good of trying to avoid duplicate posts when the facility to find doesn't work.

I hope all is OK now, JJ. I've been in a few earthquakes, the biggest being a 6.6 that went on for about 30 seconds, so I understand your concern. It's tragic  what has been happening in China, Thailand and especially Myanmar, where tragedy is mixed with disgust as the junta bombs in earthquake-affected areas ..

Emailed my friendin Bangkok and she said that she was glad that she lived on the ground floor. Quite frightening, but she's OK.  Her paid carers were terrified.  Anyway, all settled down well .
