Once more I complain of the above only as time goes on it is getting worse.  I have tried all sorts, dark room, no appliances - no TV - just nothing.  I feel that I am frightened of falling asleep and so therefore I don't.

My doctor wont give me either help as she says it has to come naturally.  My only worry is that through the day I am very weepy and know it comes from the tiredness.  I honestly don't know anything more to do.  I am so fed up with it all.

Can you nod off in the day, JJ? It's horrible not getting any sleep. It will make you depressed. If you feel tire through the day, give up to it and try to have little sleep.

no Patsy - never could sleep during the day - if I can't sleep at night then I sure couldn't sleep during the day.  I am so fed up and am getting very depresssed with it all.

I've been taking magnesium for years...it works to relax muscles and calm the brain. Look for magnesium glycinate...readily available on amazon.

There are other types of magnesium that work for relaxation...and others to keep you regular!

If you are weepy...look into B vitamins.

I used to know a lady who took herbal Kalms to help her sleep at night  - she said they helped.

Oh that's a shame. I think your Doctor should help you. You can't go on like that. Do you get much exercise through the day? Like walking? Maybe try the magnesium like Pasta suggested. They do help. Hope you can find some help soon JJ.

I take far too much Melatonin every night but if I didn't I wouldn't sleep.

I can't suggest anything JJ. I don't sleep well and nothing helps.

Maybe the doctor is worth another chat.

I do feel for you JJ - would it be possible for you to ask for another doctors opinion ?  Or would you not feel comfortzbke with that.  X

Jinnyjoan, when I can't sleep I turn the radio on very, very low and it eventually lulls me to sleep. It's worth a try

Ask your chemist for Phenargan.  Just take half a tablet two or three hours before you go to bed.  But not every night, see how it goes x

Question Author

I bought Phenargan OTC - they didn't work either.

Go back to the doctor.

When I cannot sleep I relax by listening in bed to the radio, i wake up in the morning not knowing when I nodded off.

Question Author

all those answers regarding lulling off to sleep with music etc - sure I am deaf

Take a book to bed and see how long you can stay awake for, you might be surprised!

Question Author

I used to be a fantastic reader but as I get old all has left the old brain.  Nothing works any more.

Melatonin?  10mg x 4?

Question Author

It is a wonder I am not dead - I have taken Melatonin by the buckets - - I was wondering could I buy them online ie Zolpidem - I got those many years ago and they did work.  But they are too hard to get.  particularly from the doctor.

maybe go for walk even at night, burn off some of the angst, might help if done as a routine.

JJ you can get Solpadeine Headache Relief Tablets - Paracetamol, Caffeine 16s at Tesco.
