..............sporting non-event in the world. The event that actually contains real life, upper class showboaters. The inconsequential Boat Race. Something that means absolutely nothing to the vast majority of people in this country or anywhere else. And the BBC are using our money to broadcast it. What a load of gubbins!

You moaning about it has become another annual non event!

It's not compulsory to watch it me old china.

It's more entertaining than most of the poofball they show.

It's broadcast because it's very popular.

Who gives a ***?

Not me🥱

Thanks for the replies. I don't watch it, but it's using licence payers money to broadcast it. A complete waste on garbage.

I watched it. Lots of people bet on it. If they only broadcast what 10CS wants to watch I probably wouldn't bother having a TV!

I like the way 10c calls this an elitist event and then watches the golf, a game played by people who spend more on clubs and membership than I could ever afford.

I seem to recall doing this last year and I was right:

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Question1866354.html#gsc.tab=0

It seems it was also done the year before that, because last year's post mentions that it was.

08:33, it's sold all over the world me old china, it keeps the licence fee down so you can see gayball.

I like the boat race  It's an English tradition.

Neither Oxford nor Cambridge was my university - (UCL), but I have friends who went to both & I usually support Oxford because it is closer to where I once lived in the Cotswolds.

A major disappointment though this year, they were really thrashed.  ☹

I'm a Cambridge man myself K, your boys took a beating!

Yes, and in the women's race Oxford tried to run Cambridge off the river. The Light Blue No.5 was fortunate not to be injured as she "caught a crab."

If I was Mr Pinsent I would have disqualified them there and then.

Cambridge are known as the 'light blues' - so why do they wear and race in pale green?

it's blue to some / green to others. we don't all have the same perception of colour.

It's not their normal colour. Yesterday was part of the NSPCC's "light for children" campaign. They also Kings college and the guildhall in light green yesterday.

A couple of hundred thousand on the riverbank and millions watching on TV.

It's not that inconsequential, is it

This is an annual event from 10cs clone. No doubt in a few years it will become as beloved as the boat race itself!

Thanks again for all the replies. I'm more convinced than ever that it's a load of inconsequential garbage and a waste of licence payers money. All that fuss over a load of oars. OARS I said! OARS! 😄

By reductionism you can make all sports (and most other forms of human activity sound trivial and silly:

Football: 22 grown men kicking an inflated bag around a field.

Snooker: 2 grown men pushing coloured balls into holes with a stick.

etc. etc.

I won't even start on cricket ! 😄
