I'm puzzled by 30a: 'Turn up, having dropped out, with dosh for shelter (4)'. First three letters are ROO, so it might be 'root' (tie-in with 'turn up', 'room' (as in 'room and board', or 'roof' (tie-in with shelter). But which - and why?

Sounds like 'ROUT' = turn out, less OUT = R plus OOF = dosh = ROOF
'Roof' (ie shelter) and I totally agree with Muffet's explanation.
I too spent quite a while trying to choose between ROOT and ROOF before the penny dropped. I'm glad I wasn't the only one!
