A long time ago when I was young I read a brilliant book about two boys who go on the run from some spys/henchmen after overhearing a plot to bump off/kidnap an old Czech(?) pensioner. When they told the police the said missing pensioner was shown alive and well although later it's revealed it was one of the henchmen disguising himself as the pensioner. Well it was something like that anyway. It was also a children's TV serial if it helps c. 1979.
Would love to read it again to my boys who would just love it. Any ideas anyone
Was there talk of a crickrt game at the Vaxhall grounds, and a cabbie who spoke of his nippers, and a kidnapper who said "you boy eat".
I can't remember the title , but I enjoyed the book,as did my brothers,and our mates .
Ps. we read it in the 60's
For anyone out there following this I think I've found it - It's calles Run for you life by David Line, filmed as "Soldier & Me" BBC tv c1974. Just ordered it from Amazon so can't wait to see if my long search is over! Watch this space and thanks for all answers and suggestions
