I had a wisdom tooth out with local anaestetic? (is that how it's spelt) I am still in a lot of pain after 6 days, is this to be expected. I'm taking so many painkillers that my brain is even more fuddled than usual. How long should the pain continue bearing in mind that everyone is different!

Like you say, everyone is different but from my own experience and that of friends', the pain and discomfort has only lasted a couple of days. You could have an infection so you should go back to your dentist to be checked over.
I'm with Miss Zippy go and get checked out, i had three out but under general, and don't remember it being that bad after six days. A tip though, you'll look REALLY silly but it really helps, get a pair of surgical gloves, fill them up with ice and tie them so the ice can't get out, then put them into like a bandage stocking (not a tubigrip) and tie them round your cheeks 1920s style, it really feels nice!
Hi, When I had mine out, my gums surrounding it swelled up and pushed my teeth together, which caused me a lot of pain for a good week or so. The yuk tasting of blood disappeared after about two weeks and then its all just a memory.......
I had two out undre local - teh horrendous pain was about 24 hurs and then I was on pain killers for about a week... but you could phone your dentist and find out if you need to go back in...?
I used to be a dental nurse and you should definitely go back to your dentist. What you're describing could be a 'dry socket' - this occurs when the clot that forms where you've had the tooth removed from gets dislodged or washed away and the socket gets infected. It is renowned for being a very painful condition but can be treated very simply by placing a disinfectant dressing in the hole & sometimes also taking a course of antibiotics. Hope you're feeling better soon xxx
