wisdom tooth out
5 Answers
I had a wisdom tooth out with local anaestetic? (is that how it's spelt) I am still in a lot of pain after 6 days, is this to be expected. I'm taking so many painkillers that my brain is even more fuddled than usual. How long should the pain continue bearing in mind that everyone is different!

A tip though, you'll look REALLY silly but it really helps, get a pair of surgical gloves, fill them up with ice and tie them so the ice can't get out, then put them into like a bandage stocking (not a tubigrip) and tie them round your cheeks 1920s style, it really feels nice!
I used to be a dental nurse and you should definitely go back to your dentist. What you're describing could be a 'dry socket' - this occurs when the clot that forms where you've had the tooth removed from gets dislodged or washed away and the socket gets infected. It is renowned for being a very painful condition but can be treated very simply by placing a disinfectant dressing in the hole & sometimes also taking a course of antibiotics. Hope you're feeling better soon xxx
