Every morning on our living room floor we find slug trails left behind by a slug during the night. We can't locate it during the day and have left slug pellets, beer and grapefruit overnight to capture it - all to no avail - Any suggestions on how slugs can be caught!

This seeems a new thing that is happening lots of my friends and I have the same problem my way to catch them is to put a lettuce leaf out but you must get up in the night to catch them My question is how do they get in in the first place?

what time would you suggest getting up? In the middle of the night (3am)? An hour after lights out?
We used to have slugs in our old house. If one of us got up to go to the loo in the night we would go downstairs and find the slug. There then wouldn't be any for a while but one always found it's way in somewhere eventually.
put salt around where the slug trail appears - it will kill the slug when it comes out next. I know the problem - after months of rooting, I found mine camped under my kitchen units. They were illuminous greeny colour and disgusting.
Fingers crossed for you x

thank you all for your help - I'll post back on Monday with results!
They might slide in through the sink - happened to me in college, we'd see the trails in the lounge but traced it to the silk. Leave the sink plugs in overnight. Good luck.
We had the same problem on living room carpet, tried salt to no avail, misses hoovered all over the place, but still came back each night. Got to the stage that I wasn't sure I wanted to kill it,getting like a family pet. Anyway, other night I put pellets in the places the trail usually occurred and it seems to have done the trick. There seemed to be something about quarter inch long near the trail, guess that must have been it. Heaven knows what it survived on though
