kitchen surfaces

My son got white gloss paint on my dark kitchen tops and we stupidly in a panic used a weak solution of turps to try and remove it. Of course we now have now have a cloudy smear across the surface that has bleached the colour. Short of replacing the work surface, which would be extremely costly and awkward due to tiling, what can we do?

If it's not a massive area cover it with a marble tile[s]. If you have a spare bit see if thinners or t-cut will work. Speak to whoever supplied/fitted it, in case they have a solution. Or as my missus would say "Put a plant on it." Seriously, is it so bad that you can't live with it?
How artistic are you? You can try rubbing on some enamel paints to match up the colours. I did this to hide worn end joints that had gone white on fake black marble tops. It's still holding strong (1 year) but was very fiddley and I practiced on an old bit of wood until I felt confident (also artist specialising in faux effects so bit handy at these things).
