I have to tell somebody --- I've rung a couple of friends but nobody's home. I am busy having my breakfast and turn to the GK crossword in the DT and there staring out at me is my name -- I've won first prize !!!!!! I'm still shaking with excitement !!! Sorry that it's tinged with the sadness of hearing about MM's sudden demise -- condolences to his family and those at the DT.
I've been off-line for a few hours and have just logged on again to find that my inbox is swamped with messages.
Thank you all for all your kind words and congratulations.--it's really nice to see all the regular names appearing one after the other. The cheque probably won't arrive until the new Year now but I'll raise a glass to you all to celebrate the win over the festive season.
Thanks sarumite for your eulogy on MM --it is much appreciated.
Only just come on, but better late than later still. Hearty congratulations - now you'll be able to give us strugglers a few tips. Whether to post early or splash on a first class stamp and hang on until the last minute. Big, big envelope? Pretty stamp? come on, Ulysses, we need to know. Aq.
Congrats ulysses [Stephen] on your win. I was fortunate to win this last June, before I found AB. The Almanack is an excellent tome and the money is very nice to have too.
Good for you ulysses100. It's such a great feeling to win and see your name in print! Many congratulations! Have a good Christmas and an even more successful 2007.
Just logged on late Ulysses and found our your good news so congrats..... here's to many more! I have won a fair few but the wins are few and far between so it's a great feeling to have won and here's to the next win!
Well done Stephen Ulysses. Very James Joyce your linked name and nom de plume! Maybe I'll bother to start sending in again. Would be very grateful for a couple of presentational tips: I used to ink in the answers over the pencil, and tape the crossword - but not the clues - to a sheet of paper. I did the same with Herculis, plus typing the four linked phrases below the crossword. Any better suggestions? Ought one to be sending the entire block, including the clues?
Thank you all again for your continuing congratulations.
To aquagility and Adrienne -- I just fill in the grid in ink, cut out just the crossword and address panel, fold up and send 2nd class (normally the same weekend) in an ordinary plain white envelope. Nothing special !
I've been doing this crossword for years now and it's nice to know that it is worth sending it in........
