Hi,

I have a problem which I need help with. I made a bank transfer using my online bank, but the end recipient has states that they have not received the transfer. What happens if, for some reason, the transfer went to the wrong bank account. What redress do I have, or how do I correct the problem.

I hope you can help.

Kind regards,

Well legally the recipient with the wrong bank account cannot keep it but getting it back could be problematical.

If the error is the bank's, they will sort it out with no problem.

If the recipient gave you the wrong details, or if you mistyped the details in then it's more difficult. You will have to ask your bank to sort it out, but it will take longer and be more difficult. If the mistaken recipient has spent the money the bank aren't going to be that helpful - they can't tell you who has the money (Data Protection Act).

Always check and double check what you type in

Then check again
True True Dzug...

Just to add..ask your bank / online bank to do a debit trace. They should be able to provide you with debit details - your best bet is havig a word with your bank.
I thought the manager just kept it?

Thanks for your help. I will keep you posted. It would frighten me to death to think it has been deposited in the wrong account and someone spent it.
How long ago did you make the transfer. My bank sometimes takes up to 5 days to complete a transfer and that is to my son who has an account with the same bank !!

I got to the bottom of it. I made a UK bank transfer, but it was meant to be an international wirre (which needed swift codes and an Iban number). The money is therefore orphaned in a clearing bank account, of which I am not a customer. Any ideas, how I get my money back? as the clearing bank wont discuss the account with me, as I'm not their customer
