I have an interview next week - all advice welcome.
10 Answers
Opened my post to find I have been successful in obtaining an interview next week.
I have had an awful 8 months, having resigned from my last post in nursing due to some really intimidating behaviour from a former colleague and also having to handle some really personal stuff that I didn't deal with years ago.
Consequently, my self confidence is rather dented and I need any good advice. Going for a community based post, which I am sure that I would be good at, but need to find a bit more self belief.
Any advice on any aspect welcome.

Who is having the interview? the ex working colleague who you left your last job over? The really personal one from years back or you as of 2007? I would be damned if a working colleague and someone else from months and years ago I allowed to continue to run my life - they were nothing, and they are nothing........now stop being a wimp. If you did not think you could do the job you would never have applied for it. Why should anyone give you self belief when the most important person involved in all this is giving you that very thing you seek and by that I mean the employer who advertised the vacancy of which they think you are obviously a very suitable candidate and therefore worthy for an interview. Are you going to let some twerp of eight months ago rule your life right now? You know you can do this job! You know you are capable! You don't need anyone here to boost your ego because you have got to shake the ghosts of the past loose.......go fer it and bu**er the past.
Hmmm, dont go in the interview with your sob story. Just try and relax and make sure you think before answering anything. Always look them straight in the eye, and dont stutter. If you dont understand their question, dont be afraid to ask them to explain it again, then when you do understand, make it known that you know what they mean now.
In interviews, they work on a points system, so some questions will sound strange. Also, the same question is asked a few times, but in different ways. Lastly, dont go wearing no low cut top, etc. Make sure you dress presentable as first images count. If you dont go in dressed smart, you may as well wave goodbye. You dont get a second chance to make a first impression...

No intention of going into interview with sob story MrBen. I dont want or need anyone to feel sorry for me !
LOL at low cut top - this is a district nursing job.....don't intend to show me boobs off either !!
Thank you all - you are, of course, right that they have actually picked me as my CV indicates that I could perform in the role. It may seem a bit short sighted, but I hadn't even thought of that !
zimzam - thanks - it is all still a bit raw regards the probs at work and everything else but I know that this is a big chance to move on. Just don't want to **** it up !

The day before the interview - interview yourself in the mirror (obviously alone...)
Practice talking about yourself, your skills...focus on positive things.
Make sure your suit is immaculate, clean, neat. Polished shoes. A good bag, so you don't look cluttered.
Your hair should be tied back if it is long, don't wear too much makeup. Basically look professional.
Arrive 15 minutes before the time.
Be prepared to answer questions regarding the resignation - but try and sound positive. It's unprofessional to "slag" off a company.
You have a good chance, especially if you think you can do the job.
I believe you will succed...
If you don't get it - ask foir feedback, and remember it's not meant to be and apply for other jobs.
It has taken me along time to get a job
Trust me!
Good luck and keep us updated x

'Allo Trouble!
Congrats on the interview... how very exciting!
Now, young lady, as someone who has been fortunate enough to chat with you over the last few months away from AB, I'd like to add my 6.17p, please.
I can't really 'do' advice re interviews as I am pants at them... luckily I haven't had to iron a smart pair of trousers and a crisp, white blouse or interview myself in a mirror (I know I would end up giggling like a loon and then the next day I'd remember what I'd done while taking the interview proper and make a right twit of meself while stifling a giggle) for a very long time as I work for myself. (Phew.)
Self-belief isn't really your bag, is it? Which, quite frankly, is utter madness. Utter, utter, utter madness.
Think how far you have come in recent months. Think about the choices you have made. About the POSITIVE choices you have made.
You have a long road to travel, and forgive the flouncy creative stuff, but girl, you stepped on that road with both feet and at least an inkling of the direction you wish to travel in. You have taken the first steps. A lot of first steps! The first ones are the important ones. They are the ones that make us feel good because we are on the damn road in the first place and not standing at the side in a muddy puddle wondering what it would be like to be on the road in a rather jaunty pair of slingbacks.
Ok, the slingbacks might rub at times, and you might break a heel, but blisters come and go and Super Glue is a marvellous thing.
You have achieved so much through your own merit, but because you are living it day-by-day, it probably seems less than it really is.
Give it some thought. Don't dwell on it. Just smile and think 'blimey, she's right'. (Please think that... so few people EVER think that about anything I've said!)
Good luck.
And let us know how it goes! <

................blimey, you don't half have a habit of popping up at the most unexpected times !!
Are you the 'good samaritans' on my road then, you lot. I think that might just be the case.
Flouncy ,creative stuff accepted. You are right. There, I said it. YOU ARE RIGHT !
At last I no longer feel that I am watching it all from a distance or that I am walking backwards. Just hope that someone doesn't pull the rug ....or that bandits lie ahead on my road !!
Will keep you posted ;0D
