My friend is moving house and she's concerned about how her landlord with take the severe cat scratchings on the wooden window frame. Is there any product - like a putty or something - that can make the scratches seem not so bad?

If depends if it is painted or not - your local DIY shop can sell you a filler suitable for filling wood that can be sanded down and painted over and your landlord would be none the wiser - especially if it was painted white.
Mahogany frames would be a different kettle of fish.
Mahagony coloured woodfiller available for this purpose - and indeed a range of other different wood 'colours'.

cool. thanks guys. it's not mahogany, but its a darkish wood. i'll have a look. at least now we know where to start.
Talk with the landord and agree what he will feels is a satisfactory solution. Better to agree this now
You can get a product called teals scratch remover that blends in with the wood in light and dark but not much good if your cat has took chunks out .
