I absolutely love chippy meals! Half chips, half rice and curry anyday, I would live on it if I had the money to. Everyone I know loves the chippy, yet I've never seen an article about how bad for your health chippy meals are. Is this because everyone in general loves going the chippy? I mean I know that deep fat fried chips and stuff like that must be bad for your health in some degree, but even so, everybody goes sometime or another. On the other hand though, a battered fish put in the frier is really healthy as the batter keeps the goodness in and stops the fat getting to the fish. Anyone have any views?

None of it is any good for you. Anything deep fried is nasty. The fish is okay if you remove the batter. A mixture of chips and rice is too heavy on carbohydrates. You don't need both! Where are the vegetables in this meal? The chicken in the curry is probably battery farmed, could be all the gross bits/cartilage- you don't know what you're eating in a bought curry. The rice will be processed, cheap white rice which has little nutritional content. Brown rice would be fine. People tend to go to the chippy out of convenience- they are too busy/tired to cook, it's late and they need dinner, or it's a treat. Occasionally is fine, but not regularly. I live OPPOSITE a chip shop and go there maybe once every 3 weeks, which is usually because I have run out of food or don't have time to cook. It never makes me FEEL healthy.

All depends how you want to spend the later years of your life.... if your body starts to produce too much bad cholestrol with all these high saturated fats you're going to need medication to safeguard you from the heart attack that's lurking round the corner, problem, these tablets cause side-effects and personally I've seen enough old people suffer more from these than the actual illness that I prefer cutting out on them and have the occasinal chippy meal say once every 6 months. (when I'm in England)

Yes this is a bloody serious question actually. I just wondered why everyone like Jamie Oliver goes on about how bad school meals are yet Ive never heard anyone complain about chippys. Its not that Im against them because I love em, I just wondered thats all. If you don't have a serious answer, don't bother next time...
Well Eurox sorry if you feel you were not answered correctly but there is a lot of talk about fatty chips and fried things not being good for you, but maybe it has passed you by. To answer you seriously, and sorry if you feel we have been flippant, I think if you eat chips now and then it will do you no harm, nor will fish in batter provided you balance it out with some exercise and other fresh foods, fruit and vegetables. A battered fish will indeed have the goodness inside if it is a good piece of fish, but the batter itself is quite fatty. Basically all things in moderation is the key to health in my own humble opinion. But then I could get run over by a bus tomorrow .................
I think the Jamie Oliver thing was a big deal because it was regarding children. Kids are growing at an alarming rate and what they put in their body becomes the building blocks for their physical self. Children eat what they are given by adults, so if schools are giving children appalling food choices, then that is bordering on child abuse- not giving them the start in life they deserve. With chippys it is basically adults, who are old enough to be able to decide for themselves what they buy and eat. Having said that, there are loads of programmes out there, like "You are what you eat" and "Diet Doctors" etc etc which all tell you that fried and fatty processed food is not going to do you any good.
