Due to licence restrictions I can only ride a motorbike up to a max of 33bhp - what NEW or nearly new machines (over 125cc) are available?

What type of bike do you want? A good choice is a Yamaha 250 Virago but it is very easy to fit a 33bhp restrictor kit to many mid engine bikes. You have to use a dealer to get a certificate to confirm it`s restriction, but your options then would be like Kawasaki`s ER5, KLE 500, & Suzuki`s 600 Bandit, SV650 etc. There are not many new or 1-3 year old 33bhp bikes about to be honest. Most are 125cc and the others are scrambler/trial bikes.

Check out the Honda CBR125R, 13 BHP at 10,000rpm. Its a group 6 insurance and will do about 75mph. A less 'sporty' option is the Honda CG125, which is good for 11BHP at a less manic 11,000 RPM and develops about the same torque as the CBR, this one should do about 70MPH and is a group 3 insurance.

Even though I have a full licence I spent last year riding a Cagiva Canyon. This is a single cylinder 500cc big trailie style and is 33bhp. A great bike, fun and easy to ride. Mine was one of the last on a Y reg. It was in perfect condition and I sold it for 1200 so they aren't what you'd call expensive!

Woops, that BHP figure for the CG125 should read 11BHP at 9000 RPM, not 11,000!

if i am a learner rider can i get a zzr 600 and get it restricted an still ride it on a learner plate can anyone help me on this please
Woni14 - If you still have L plates you can only ride a 50cc if you are 16, or a 125cc if you are 17 or over. When you pass your test on a 125, you can ride any cc bike as long as the power output is restricted to 33bhp.
