how can I check whether my house is in the correct coucil tax band?

On telly tonight. Go to voa.gov.uk and go from there. Can't advise anymore because as a result of the programme the site is getting to many hits at the moment and can't cope.
As Postdog says, go to the website, identify what local council you are then put your postcode in. It will come back with your house and all your neighbours and you can see what Banding all the houses around you are. There's no definitive answer to whether its in the right band - its a question of whether it seems the same as other neighbours with a similar sized house.
go to moneysavingexpert.com - there is an item on it which explains the process you have to go through to work it out, though it also advises that you make sure you are confident of being in the wrong band before you investigate further, as the banding can go up as well as down!
