The weekend is upon us and wheels are about to be set in motion for The MM and KM Link Games, where ABers pit their wits against rogerr and the mighty Herculis. This is an International Event linking scorers from England and Australia in which both sides are winners (not a bit like Cricket). We are expecting entries from across Europe and even from the Caribbean.

The game is like Blankety Blank and there are two versions (two for the price of one) and entry is free! The MM version run this month by Barbara who sets the Words to be linked and will kick off with a new posting on AB at 9.00am tomorrow (sharp). More details given there!

The KM version is refereed by Steff (aka seekeerz) and the Words to be linked come from Saturday 's DT and their Links come from Monday's DT. The idea is to try to predict Monday's Link Words. We have in the past had one person score 3 out of 4 (but never all four).

WARNING If you are a Herculis purist, then don't open this second posting until you've solved the Crossword for yourself. Our intention is to give added value to the DT Crossword without spoiling it for anyone.

The games run for at least 34 hours, so there should be plenty of time to get your predictions in! Hits score points and weekly totals are added to find the Monthly Winner!

Good morning to you all there in the shrubbery.
Lest there be any confusion, today's link words are posted here:

Oh, very droll, crofter, very droll!

Aquagility - That's the best i could come up with this early in the morning! Many thanks for setting the ball rolling yet again. I imagine it must be quite a feat to get the paper, solve the clues and go on-line while most are still slumbering. You are almost the fourth member of the team!
Well, that's a real honour. I'll be happy to sit on the subs' bench, though.

Cor, they're all in a mad mood this morning, what have you done with them, crofter ??

don't mind me, I've just come over to scribble a bit before I head for the hay - this getting up at 6.30 am is doing my beauty sleep no good at all and boy, do I need it !!

how's things in the land of my forebears today ? at least we've had a few nice days, none of this 40+ rubbish - not good for man or beast and now I think I'd better go, I'm wittering again and that's not a good sign - night, night, Steff
Question Author
Steff - We have had a fall of snow, but nothing serious.
The thaw has already kicked in! I believe there's more on its way.

As for lack of sleep, this is the start of my third monthof AB, and it's definitely having an effect on my sleep patterns.

Yes, turnout has been good!
Yes, the natives are restless!
Please can I have directions to the shrubbery??
Elspeth, think carefully before you make such a move. I am a shadow of my former self since I got involved with that motley crew - forever fighting, scratching, rugby-tackling and all sorts of other unmentionable tricks to get in first. And for what? Nothing but glory!!!!!!!! :O)
sounds right up my street dustybun and perhaps some of the glory will rub off. I could certainly do with some! I'm still operating on L plates! Good luck with the answers - I don't suppose there's any chance of a bribe............?
Thank you so much for the explanation crofter - I kind of know what's going on now - and have answered my own question in another post - High St is not acceptable as it's two words!

Alibobs, Sorry that I missed your question. Presently, I spend about 10 hours a week on AB or behind the scenes devoting time to these Link Games exclusively. I am in contact with 5 or 6 ABers virtually daily.

Since joining AB two years ago, I have posted 53 questions and given over 4000 answers. Yet I don't enter crosswords competitons, I don't do the MM Link Game and I enter only 5 or 6 Quizzes each year.

To try to ease time constraints, I have delegated KM to seekeerz and MM to rogerr. When they need help or support, I provide it. I also post the scribble pad and collate the weekly results on a spreadsheet containing over 100 names and extending back over 14 weeks.

Is this the source of the "crofter v efficiency" riddle recently posed by swannbaker? I wonder?
Good heavens, crofter! I used to be full of admiration for your efforts, but having read the above I have decided that you must be mad, quite mad.
But please don't stop.
Aq.

Aquagility. These words from you in particular mean more than you realise. I have no intention of stopping, I wished only to explain to Alibobs why I sometimes I miss questions directed to me personally and try to get to the bottom of the posting below:

You'd better not stop Crofter. You are needed in more ways than one! Apart from all the work you clearly do, you are an inspiration to us all!...That's enough now!...can't let you rest on your Laurels!!!...leave that to the shrubbery pack!

crofter - good morning to you and all others, could you whisper a small word in Gravit8's ear that there is another site/comp and she's missed out again this week !! I might start to get stroppy if she keeps this up !!

Happy to see that both sites have been rolling along merrily in my temporary absence.

I do hope swannbaker is being complimentary with his riddle - one is never sure - I wonder what language his answers will be in, this time. cheers for now S [got to go watch some 'c' but don't tell sarumite]
Mmmm...swannbaker --unsettling and ambiguous, that's his role.
Long ago, before I joined AB, I used to write down on a piece of paper on Saturday my own predictions for the link word on Monday. This is much more fun !
I had not appreciated how much time it took you crofter, and, in a totally selfish way, hope you carry on. Thank you.
seekeerz ,rogerr (thank you ma'am for the dispensation),and Aquagility all do stirling work; all praise to them as well.
Now I have to go off and settle my nerves before this afternoon's rugby match... hoping against hope that Brian O'Driscoll will somehow be fit!
Yes...thanks to all ..Crofter, seekeerz and rogerr for all that they do, as has been posted several times and sincerely meant.
I would also like to thank Aquagility, which he knows is really significant for him...he knows why. I know on a Saturday that he will have posted early, and given us the Link words. I have come to rely on his contribution. Thanks a lot A..
Pauline x
It is significant, Pauline, and I do know why!
Take care, and win lots of points!
Aa.
