Does anyone know how i can automatically type the letter i as a capital I ??

If you're using MS Word then it will do so anyway. Just enable the auto-correct option.

I suppose therefore that you must mean in a different context for which I have no answer, sorry

What happens when you want to type a word with the letter I in it?

You would end up with this --> capItal or automatIcally.

Hi - where is the auto correct function? When i am typing an email message, the i stays as lower case, as in this sentance!

Tried the help files and i am still stuck! The letter is automatically changed to a capital when using Word, but not when typing an email.
