a love lost

Someone once said to me
"If you love someone I don't think you can get over them, there is always a part of you that misses them or wonders what life would have been like if you were still together. "
Do you think this is true?
Or do you think its easy to forget and easy to move on.

I was forced to get over my ex after he cruely dumped me months before our wedding, i still wonder what went wrong and what life would be like if we were still together, but thats not to say that i am still in love with him. I am over him, i moved on, it was hard, it hurt, but im over it, but that doesnt mean i cant still think about the past.
To be perfectly honest I sometimes think "what if" about lots of different scenarios, not just about past loves. It's easy to think that. "What if I had made that other decision many years ago?", or "What if I won the lottery on Saturday?"
By the way. I am fully intending on winning the lottery on Saturday.

Its natural to wonder 'what if' - this doesn't mean you are not over them or still carrying a torch for them.
its like role playing and imagining scenarios - what if we had gone to that place that day when there was a fire...what if i had crossed the road just a few minutes later...what if i had been a twin...what if i had gone to a different school...we do it all the time with all sorts of things, so merely imagining what could have been does not mean you haven't moved on.
i have thought of it with all of my exes - and there are a few 'Phews!', a few 'mmm...?' and few 'awww, not so bad'
but i am a glad i am not with any of them now.

Recently I was in a supermarket and a chap came up to me and chatted away asking how I was, how was my family, he obviously knew me but I couldn't think who he was - not unusual I meet lots of people through work. It was only after he'd gone it dawned on me he was a boy I'd gone out with for 4 years who I loved so much I didn't go to uni and a didn't take a job in the US because I didn't want to be parted from him. So I think it is possible to forget and move on lol!!!
In defence legend I went out with him when he was 17 through to 20 and when I met him he was 40 and looked very different. I knew he reminded me of someone to look at and it was only after he had gone that I realised he looked like his Father lol! But next time a teen says to you 'But I love him' just remind them that in another 20 years you won't even know who they are!!!
