i let a friend of mine have a quick try of my car in an aerodrome bit in dartmoor,we though this would be a good idea as it was away from main traffic but a police car turned up whilst my friend was in the drivers seat, she had a previssional license but wasnt insured to drive it and we had no l plates,so we have to go court.Does anyone know how many points etc we will get?

hi,surely if the aerodrome was private grounds, there should be no offence to answer to.

i have just looked at the police statement and it says its on the public road, forms part of the old yelverton aerodrome link roads?not really sure what that means. alot of people i know have done the same thing there before.i think they are being abit harsh!
The police seem to be arguing that you were on public roads, rather than private ground.
It's worth remembering that public roads in this case include places where the public has unrestricted access (or something like that - not sure of the exact wording). So... if anyone can do the same as you have without special permission, or access via a locked gate or similar, the area is counted as a public road, the same as a supermarket or pub car park is.
I agree with Bob. If you had to pay to get in then it's private land. If you didn't and it's open to anyone who wants to use it, then it's classed as a public road and you'll get done. Not sure what the penalty will be though.
No insurance probably 300 fine plus 6-8 points
a harsh lesson im a afraid. She will definately get a fine and possibly point which will affect her if and when she passes her test.
Fight it. Write pleading letters. Argue the toss. Beg.
