I received a parking ticket whilst parked on private land. It gives details of the make and colour of my car which are correct but the registration plate has been incorrectly hand written down.
Where do I stand on paying this fine? Any advice, greatly appreciated.
I only received the ticket last night (sat 24/2/07) and have 14 days to pay before it goes up to 125 and so forth.
The ticket details the make and colour of my car but wrong reg plate (two transposed letters), where it was parked and the issuing time of ticket.
As I far as I can see they can't unless they've taken a picture of the car's reg plate. I don't know whether this has happened, and of course don't want to write to ask as that will be as good as admitting it's my car. And just to confirm, the ticket was placed on the windscreen by a private operator.
I had a similar instance where I was given a parking ticket on yellows and they put the worng reg down.
Never heard anything from them - you wont if you think about it - how will they get your address from the wrong reg plate ? Once that has been brought into the frame - they could have made a mistake with the colour, make model etc etc they haven't a leg to stand on.
Unless of course they did take a photo !!!
They would then probably issue another ticket when checked with the photo - with your cars details and go from there.
If it was me - I'd wait and see if they do have photo evidence and using the reg plate as an example of the mistake they have made - insist on seeing a copy of the photo if they insist on pursuing it.
I got off once on a technicallity I had a kit car and a traffic warden booked me on yellow lines got the Reg right but put the make of car down as a Morgan ( it was not )apparently if its a legal document it has to be right.
Good luck
got a parking ticket in Swindon once- was overjoyed to see they had omitted the last letter of my reg no on the ticket- straight in the bin! If the reg no is wrong you are home free!
