I found a website that said that you can now wear contact lenses for reading and distance. Has anyone worn these?

Sure. They're varifocals, also known as 'progressives', just like the spectacles. Have a look on Google.

Thanks! I pick up my new glasses next week but will ask about contact lenses for special occasions when I would rather not wear glasses.
i wear one contact in the left eye to correct long sight and one in the right for short sight sounds strange but it does work takes about 2 weeks to get used to
