I have always been a cat person and had cats since i left home at 19(many years ago!) I currently have 5 cats of varying ages 2 females Trixie and Maddie and 3 males Cini, Starry and Sphinx.Maddie had kittens last August and we kept one of them -Sphinx.All are now neutered.Neither Cini and Starry are Sphinx's father yet Cini washes him all the time and Starry lets him suckle on him for hours at a time.I asked my vet and she had never heard of anything like it.Sphinx is weaned and is not suffering from being taken from his mum too early cos he still lives with her!! Do I just have exceptionally wierd cats or has someoneelsebeen through this too.All cats are happy, healthy and totally overdosed on love.Does the kitten just have the house wired to his needs? What do you guys think?
i have a 2 year old male that i hand raised from birth and bottle fed until four months! She still likes to suckle on the inside of my thumb. When i finally weaned him from the bottle he would chase me around if he saw me holding anything that even remotely resemble and kitten bottle. Sphinx just sounds like he has the life and some male cats can be very loving to kittens. When i brought the newborn kitten home from the vets
all my male cats clambered for looks and wanted to wash the baby, but all the females hissed and spit and ran away.
(his mama is a special needs kitty and would not care for him)
I fed him and one of the males would wash him. it was a precious heart melting sight to see i can tell you.
I have another kitten that was probably weaned too soon cause he kneads and suckles on whatever i happen to be wearing at the time or on one of the older males.
We had a brother ans sister many years ago and when the sister got pregnant by the local stray, we ended up keeping one of the 3 kittens (because he was really clingy with me but hated everyone else!) he continued to suckle from his mum untill she was killed by a car when he was about 18 months old.
His uncle also really looked after him and was always cleaning him, and even babysat the kittens when they were very small and mum needed a break! soooo cute!
