Now then, many moons ago when I was growing up we had a Jackie annual knocking around the house with instructions for a rather fetching knitted 'egg, bacon, beans and chips' beret. Does anyone know what year it was published? Thanks!

Wow, now there's a business enterprising idea if ever I saw one. If you've still got it, you can knock them up and I'll do the advertising. We can split the profits 50/50.We'll make a fortune. What d'you say? (Sorry though I don't know the year you were looking for)
I knew it would look fantastic. Well done IndieSinger, how did you find that one?
Wow, I'm impressed.
Well simple really. I went to my "Chronological List of Favourite Individual Knitting Pattern Articles from Jackie Annuals" favourites folder, typed in "garish" and up it came.

Ah, IndieSinger, you are truly enlightened with the sacred powers of Knitonepurlone. Now, where are my needles...
I've hidden them.

*Update* I am currently the highest bidder on a copy of said Jackie annual. If I win it, who knows where it will lead: roast guinea fowl with lardons and a rosemary jus crocheted shoes? Anyone brave enough to want to witness the terrifying results, let me know.
If you're that concerned about getting it, have you got eBay sniper? Presuming you're bidding for it on eBay... goto www.download.com, search "eBay sniper" in Downloads (change "in Windows" to "in Downloads") and download the second result (called "eBay Auction Sniper and Snipe Auto Search Bid Tool 1.3"). It's free and it works!

Thanks for the tip. BTW, you seem to be a complete brainiac (q.v. all your answers to people stuck on that bloody musical mystery). How so?
I tried looking on the the link that Indiesinger gave but my department's IT system won't allow me to see this stylish accesory! Apparently "Access to the requested site has been denied as the content of the site may be contrary to our standards of behaviour and decency." Whatever does this beret look like?
Smiffy....you can see it here: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Answerbook/

Isn't it bee-yoo-tiful? Glad to be reminded that I am a member of Answerbook - haven't been on there in AGES.
I never really know whether to take "braniac" as an insult or a compliment. Maybe I'm better off not knowing :) By the way, this thread fits this sub-heading (Arts & Literature) so well, don't you think? Art - the stunning beret and bag, Literature - the classic English works of Jackie.

I agree totally. On a connected, yet tenuous, note:a friend of mine used to model in the 'photo story' sections. *shudder*
OMG, I actually remember that! I am getting old......
Don't know if you people are still reading this link...but........someone we know is getting married soon, and he appeared in a photo story in 1979 in Jackie...anyone know where i can get hold of it???
