my mum has always been quite 'anti fat'. she has always made coments about my weight wether ive been size 14/16/18. she has told me today she feels ashamed to be seen out with me. am i right to be upset or should i stop feeling sorry for myself?
i accept she is worried for my health, but she crushes my confidence & self esteem with these comments leading to more comfort eating.
please be honest- should i get over myself or be angry- i just dont know anymore.

That is such a cruel thing to say...and yes i would be angry and very upset. A parent should be encouraging her daughter to be happy with herself, dont care what other people think...these are key issues to life! Its a damn cruel way of saying that...if she was worried about your health then she should approach the subject carefully saying she is worried about you. At the end of the day you need to ask yourself are you happy with yourself? If you are and have no health problems then dont let anyone put you down!
the funny thing is, that people who say things like this are making an arrogant, snide judgement of you, but what they don't seem to realise it that it actually judges them

they come out of it looking much worse than the person they are insulting does.

you should tell your mother that - you can lose weight and can fit in with her 'so-called' ideal - should you choose to.
she can never take back the cruel things she said and therefore she will always be a bad mother
