Fish Tank Glass Is Scratched On Inside

Unsure if this is best place to post this?
My fish tank has some bad scratches on the inside front panel so very noticeable. I think it must have happened when using my magnetic cleaner which may have picked some sand up from bottom. Anyway, has anyone any idea how or even if I could do anything to make them less noticeable?

Turn the tank round so the back is at the front

Apparently going over it alot rubbing brasso on to it works?
Obviously would have to empty the tank first, thenput some brasso on a cloth and rub it in!
Orrrr turn the tank round? (but im guessing that wouldnt work!)

Have had the same problem myself. Only thing Ive found that works is turning the tank (as above) so the scratches are at the back. Brasso would probably work but you'd be rubbing for an awfuly long time.

Thanks for the advice. However as the tank is 2000 x 600 x 450mm rather difficult! Actually wouldn't work anyway as the holes are in the top back for wires and tubes.

How do you think scratches got there? Do you reckon the sand got in the magnetic glass cleaner? Can't see how else!

magnetic cleaner must of got grit in it
You can buy a cemical for alge for tanks and this will keep the glass clean a bit
When you do clean the glass dont go to near the gravel then you shouldnt pick grit up again

Or a nice big plec (mines called Frank) algae suddenly isn't a problem.

This is not much help to you, but it is not always the magnetic glass cleaner, in fact, I doubt if it would scratch the glass badly as you described.

Next time you purchase a tank ask them to write on the receipt that new glass has been used, and the type of glass; float or plate.
Frequently aquariums, especially of larger dimensions such as yours, are made with second hand glass to cut down on cost. The scratches are very hard to detect in a tank, particularly if the scratches have been 'painted' with kerosine.
Once the tank is filled with water micro-organisms will settle in the scratches and they become more obvious.

Using Eucryl tooth powder is far better than brasso. It will work with your fish tank glass without the danger of poisonous residue. It is much quicker than brasso as well.

By the way....

Got a pleco, 2 housekeepers, 8 flying foxes and none of them seem to make an impression on glass! Also tank is a Rena brand and can't imagine it would not be made without 'new' glass.
