poorly goldfish

my goldfish has always had a swollen body and now it has what looks like bruises under its skin and it is bleeding from one of the bruises. What is this?

The bloating (dropsy) can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection, this could also explain the discoloration.

It may be worth trying an antibiotic treatment as this will sort out the problem if it is bacterial.

Is the water quality good (pH, acidity, nitrates etc), this needs correcting if it isn't right.
