I caught the tail end of the news about contaminated petrol causing problems with some cars. This was in the Portsmouth and Southampton area. Has anyone heard anything. I ask because my daughter is having problems with her car. ie loss of acceleration and one small local garage couldn't find the cause.

Yeah, I posted a similar question yesterday 27/02/2007 -Wrong mix of petrol...- but from the majority of the repsonse I received, nobody seemed to be taking it seriously. I've not actually seen it on news yet, so I hope the problem is hi-lighted.
it sounds alot like when you put diesel in a petrol, so i shud imagin that the petrol has been condensed wrong and sliped through the quality chaecks so is i wont hurt the car to much but if it stops will need the tank draining!

has sorry didn't see your post yesterday. It only happened to my daughter today when she went to take the kids to school. It drives normal for a very short distance and then loses power and just crawls along. Hopefully it wont be anything too expensive to fix.
This seems to be a problem with supermarket ( Tesco)petrol in the south at present. I think the answer is to keep topping up with good quality fuel like BP Ultimate until the old is cleared through.
it appears morrisons petrol also causes thesame trouble , but both companies deny any problems
its got some stuff about it on msn news.
I saw your question too has, i bet norman the dog feels pretty stupid now

As I said in a post above. My daughter filled up in a small Esso garage near her home and her car is now in a garage and it is going to cost her at least 200 to put it right.
Maggie, did your daughter complain and get any joy from Esso? My car was off the road for 2 weeks, oxygen sensor was damaged as a result of contaminated fuel, from Tesco, but wondered if they too were going to apologise and hopefully pay out.
