I'm moving into a house that has wireless wanadoo broadband and I have a fairly new intel imac with Airport Extreme. Will I be able to recieve broadband through Airport without installing and plugging anything in so it will basically be ready to use straight away? I'm not too knowledgable on airport as I currently have bt broadband plugged in.
If ur wireless connection is configured correctly then airport will recognize the connection straight away, enter the settings of your connection and connect!
Had a mac at uni and airport gave me internet access via a neighbors connection for a year lol.
Thanks for the reply. My friends who I'm moving in all use the wireless broadband (on PCs however) so I guess it should work on mine. How do you set up the connection? Does that involve just putting in a password or something? I guess my friends will know how it works.
I've only just started looking into wireless because of moving. I didn't realise before today you can pick up other people's internet! Also I've only just realised that my computer is picking up signals from other wireless users in the area and are listed on my computer. Madness!
You mean that your iMac has wireless, and the house you're moving into already has wireless internet?
If so, you'll see a radar-type icon next to the clock at the top of your screen; click that when the signal is on and you should be able to choose the network name that you're going to connect to, and if it needs a password it'll ask for one.
I know it 's theft! I was just surprised it was possible and that there's a list on my computer of other people's internet on my computer. I don't actually plan on using them.
