i was with it them when they were freeserve and also when they became wanadoo.when it wass working it was fine but when there were problems their customer service was truly appalling.
their customer service was based in india so please do not take this as racism but i could not understand a word they were saying and on top of that they were clearly clueless and would take you over and over the same ground each time you called.

It was just all the reports of down time that I was mainly concerned about, it would drive me crazy if i couldn't access the internet for long periods of time. And yes those call centres are a major source of brain pain, I agree!!
Hi BubbleK, I live in the North-East of England and I've been using Orange broadband for nearly a year now and I've not had one problem with the connection or their service. Can't comment on their Customer Services because I've had no reason to contact them. Hope this helps with your decision.
Hi I have had this connection since freeserve then wanadoo and now orange some 9 years or so never had a problem at all. Worth a try.
Yes it is rubbish. When I just used an ordinary Modem the line kept being faulty, and the connection was cut off regularly at busy times, i.e. in the evening when you want to use the internet. Now I have a livebox, I am persistently having a problem with PPP server down which cuts off the connection and it is a complete pain getting it back on. This happens several times a day. In fact, would appreciate anyone able to help with this problem. It seems to me that they sell service but cannot sustain it. The call centre try to help but it is difficult to understand them and for them to understand us, they appear to be programmed with a script and anything that deviates from that they cannot cope with. And yes they do go over the same thing over and over again. I am trying very hard to get out of this service but getting the MAC code is not easy either. I have only ever used Bt before and never had any problems, but they are quite expensive. I know people who have Tiscali and are satisfied, and Sky also appear to be OK. I would not, could not ever recommend Orange.
I have been 'on the net' since 2000 and started with Freeserve, then Wanadoo. I stupidly changed to AOL for a year and had nothing but problems. I returned to Orange a year ago and have had no problems at all. I will say that I have never had cause to call customer services so I can't comment on that. In the year I have been with Orange, I have not xperienced any server downtime at all, and I would have noticed as I use the net a lot every day. Cannot praise Orange highly enough.
Mattk. You have fallen into the trap of thinking you have to defend yourself against accusations of racism because you justifiably criticise people from another country. If you do this you only play into their politically correct hands.

It seems like it is really just the luck of the draw, and where there are problems they are big problems and otherwise its all hunky dory! Cheers for the help guys gives me some food for thought x.

Good luck!
Been with Wanadoo/Orange for 7 years now, never had any real probs, but am most annoyed about the 1.1Mbps I get after being a faithful customer. Did get on to Call Centre in India recently and although prob semi resolved I am sure it took 3-4 times the normal time, as I had to repeat and ask for clarity on lots of words.
