can methane gas be packaged, as in a waste disposal kind of way? or will it cause packaging to explode at certain tempreatures etc?

Yes. It has always been safely packaged in humans. Mind you, the male species has a habit of leakage and on some occasions has led to explosions. Hope this helps.

These days in the UK, gas cookers and ovens use 'natural gas' as distinct from the old 'town gas' that was derived from heating coal.
'Natural gas' is composed mainly of methane.
It is generally stored and transported in a liquid state, (LNG).
