My daughter's seven year old house rabbit has recently begun to chew and scratch at the carpet quite badly. This is out of the blue as he was really well behaved before this. He also stamps his foot some nights now. Any suggestions as to why would be helpful.

some rabbits will chew carpets etc mine did plenty of it when they were both bored, try giving your bunny things to play with etc a digging box, with some shredded paper or some empty loo rolls to toss, both mine have hours of fun with both of these things, i also made some tunnels out of old boxes for them to run through and gave them old phone directories to shred but please check there arent any staples in any magazine/paper you give your bunny to play with.
as for the thumping issue, all rabbits thump, they do this because they are scared or have heard a noise, they do this to warn other rabbits there is danger so you wont ever change that, mine do it at night, it often wakes me up!
hope this helps.
