Internet problem.

I'm having alot of problems with my laptop, it connects to the internet, but when i try to go online it doesnt let me. I have tried disabling the firewall but still nothing. Can anyone help?Any help will be gratefully received, as i have been at it for 4 hours

p.s it was working fine yesterday and i dnt think i have done anything to it.

Wired or wireless?

If wireless, is it any different if you connect by wire?

Windows XP or something else?

What happens exactly when you try to get online?

Is wireless, i dont have a wire.

Its Windows XP.

It says internet explorer cannot show web page.

Have you tried turning everything off at the plugs.

Switch back on in this order:

Modem - wait at least 30 seconds

Router - if separate, again wait

Laptop.

This can reset things and magically reconnect.

If it doesn't work, we'll try something else.

When you right click the wireless icon in your taskbar by the clock, what information does it give under 'status'?

it says connected at 54.0 mbps but thes no activity

Have you tried resetting the router to default?

If it was fine yesterday, I would use system restore to restore it to the day before yesterday and see if everything returns to normal. Please turn your firewall back on.

I too would suggest a system restore as first option. Failing that, I would set up a new wireless connection to see if that one connects. Your connection settings may have corrupted.

you arent on tiscali by any chance are you bubba?

I am having similiar problems, I can only get on here and asda online, I cant get on anything else, not even my email :( It seems tiscali are having some major problems affecting tons of people. Mines been like it since yesterday morning and is still not sorted out.
