who issued my passport ?
I have a normal new [with chip] British Pasport, tomorrow I go to the Indian Embassy in London to get my Indian visa, the form states :-
passport issued by ---my answer UKPA which is on my passport. next question
passport issued at ------
but I have no idea, I live in Essex and I handed my passport to the post office in London E.14 and they sent it off and it came back by courier , but I dont know if it went to Petty France or where ?
what do I put London ??? or what ???
advise pls , tks

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I'd put down London. There's a list of Passport Offices here. It's unlikely the Post Office sent it to any but the nearest one, and I doubt if the Embassy would query it anyway.
Q1. Probably right to write 'UK' ... that is what most immigration forms around the world expect as an answer to this kind of question (they would not understand 'UKPA'). But in this case, 'UKPA' at an embassy in London will be fine I'm sure.
Q2. UK passports used to indicate where they were issued, if I recall, London, Peterborough, Glasgow or Belfast. They no longer do. So looks like the visa form is out of date. Either write London, or UK (i.e. so it is clear that is was not issued at a UK embassy overseas)

follow up -- I put London and it was not queried.
What I could not beleieve was how quick the whole process took, just over one hour and I was back in the street with passport & visa, usually it takes all day, lady behind the counter said it is always less crowded on Wed & Thurs and because it is so hot there now and the Goa tourist season is over, fewer people apply.
I have since been told that Peterborough deals with most applications for South now.
