You probably don't want to hear this but, please don't try to do this yourself!!!!! It will more than likely go horribly wrong.x
I agree with Katie - go to a salon, even if you don't normally.

What colour is your hair naturally though? If it's quite dark, you'll have the never-ending hassle of touching up your roots every couple of weeks too, and if that's not done properly, it looks awful. If you're not prepared to go to a salon every time - and I don't suppose you are!! - I think you'll regret it...Why not get some professional advice? A colourist will have a chat with you, free, and you may decide on something you wouldn't have thought of before. :o)
Even professionally it is likely to look bit orange the first time. You need to ask for ashy blondes. Start with a full head of ashy highlights at the hairdressers.
If are going to attempt this at home then I would advise the following,

1. Go and buy some sort of pre lightener (Boots have a great range)
2. Buy some hair dye that is ash blonde colour
3. Buy some tissues as when you first strip your hait it WILL go orange, yellow and white in places and you will cry!

Pre lighten your hair on a Friday night so you have all weekend to dye over it.

I have just done this reecently, it has taken about 4 weeks and myhair is only just starting to look blonde and not strawberry blonde/ginger.

I went to the hair dressers yesterday and she cut so much off my hair off as it was in such bad condition due to doing what you are trying to do! I have religiously deep conditioned my hair and at the very lwast condirioned it every day since and applied hair creme to stop it looking like straw.

My advice - go to the hairdressers. I kept thinking I couldnt afford it but it has cost me more in the long run with all the hair products I have had to buy just to make it look "normal"

Good luck

Sorry about my terrible spelling above - I have fake nails on and they are so hard to type with! lol

:O)
I tried this on my daughter who is naturally blonde but has dyed it black for a couple of years and yep it did go exactly as
girlygirl says. Even after putting brown over it but still went patchy. She is now using non permanent dye over it until it grows out. Either do this or use a salon as her hair also became very brittle and out of condition. GOOD LUCK!
