I hear BT have revived their plans to create a mobile phone that can be used at home as well, saving the need for two separate numbers. Does anyone know if it's being tried yet, and how a caller knows whether they're paying to use it when the person's in or out- if they think it's the home number and they're mobile they could get a nasty surprise on the bill otherwise.

in the next 5 years, the uk's emtire phone system is being updated - to become digital.the plans will also allow a single phone as you say that can be used anywhere. this is a good thing in my opinion(ive said that would happen for years !) but the negative thing is that you'll get cold calls etc etc no matter where you are !!!!

The impression I got from their press release was they were planning it now rather than in 5 years. There's nothing on their website though so they could have diplomatically avoided that detail.
