Hello out there. I had someone addres me as 'Tiddy Mint' a few weeks ago. Ever since then i have been left wondering what this means. It seems it may be an old phrase as it was his grandmother that use to call him this. Does anyone have any idea weather i have been complemented or insulted, I really have no idea. Look forward to a possible reply. TTFN

One obsolete meaning of 'mint' is a small insect or mite and 'tiddy' is a standard nursery/dialect word for tiny. So, presumably a 'tiddy mint' would be a little mite, a word often used for children, of course.
I take it you are petite, Lottie.
I know this is really late, but maybe it could help. Years ago, my best friend was known to her family as Mint. When I asked her why, she said it was actually "Tilly Mint" and it was a girl's name. The bit I can't remember is whether it was a poem, a song, an old movie character or what, but it was definitely a very old source because it was from her mother, who must be in her 70's now. It was definitely Tilly though, not Tiddy.

Hope you solve your puzzle!!

Thanx to the 'peps' that gave me an answer regarding my question on the possible meaning of 'Tiddy Mint'. It could also of been ' Tilly Mint' as one of my responses mentioned as the person who adressed me as this does have quite a strong accent. It was ment fondley it seems, that i can deal with. Thanx again

Lottie

PS Although the statement may give a perspective of me being petite, as was mentioned, unfortunatly I am not!
