FAO Hairdressers!!
3 Answers
I have long naturaly curly hair which i only ever get trimmed (boring). However I fancy going mad and getting it cut short. At the monent it comes down to the middle of my back - however its straight for a few inches before it starts getting curly - this is due to the weight (although i don't have thickk hair, before anyone tells me to get it thinned out). My hair is all the same length - no layers etc. What i'm wondering is, if i get it cut short (shoulder length lets say), this will obviously take some of the weight off, will this mean that it will start to curl from the root, as this is what i'm after, it was kinda like this when i was 11, but them i started growing it and having a middle parting, and it went downhill from there. p.s. i'm quite scared of hairdressers, so dont recomend anythin too drastic!!! thanks :)

I would be careful doing to drastic a haircut as curly hair can be hard to manage with the wrong cut.
I had the same hair to yours about 5 years ago (until i started to straighten it!) however mine has got toooo much weight to it.
I would maybe try having a cut and maybe a colour change to make you feel different and even try straightening it sometimes or putting it up differently.
My advise it to think carefully first and dont get to much taken off as then you might not be able to do anything with it.
lastly go to a good hairdresser ask for a consultation and see if you feel confident with them first. If you do try the trim and if you like the way they did it and like the cut you could always go back for another more dramatic chop!
Good luck! Melons

If it's definitely the weight preventing the curl for the first few inches and not just the way your hair grows, then you can get away with a shorter cut. I would suggest to have a shoulder length or above bob ie, all the same length, no fringe. Buy a diffuser and use products to enhance the curl. Once you start layering, then you can get into all sorts of styling problems, as wavy and curly hair has a mind of its own....it may look good leaving the salon but doing it yourself can be a nightmare!! Also, part at the side unless you want to look like a 70's diva!
