fault finding for a ford ka

I have a 1998 Ford Ka and I notice that sometimes it over revvs when changing gear, or when stopping. Can anyone help with this problem?

Could well be a 'tickover' problem. The engine management system in your car handles at what rpm your car should rev at when your foot isn't on the accelerator (e.g. Changing gear, sitting at traffic lights etc). As they are all computer controlled then it would be a case of taking to a garage to get looked at. But then again, could be something totally different like your accelerator pedal not returning to the normal position due to a sticking cable or something. Cars, huh? always a worry when they go wrong...

it's a fault reated to a sensor on the engine that sees the engine temperature and adjusts the fuel mixture accordingly. it's a fairly wel known problem and relatively cheap and easy to sort.

just to update you, there is a known fault on the throttle position sensor and it's wiring harness. it's the subject of a recall on certain build dates. check it at www.honestjohn.co.uk

Hi guys i have the same problem with the throttle position sensor, and have had for a couple of years now.It is definetly a fault and some cars can not be fixed including mine. It is quite frustrating and i do wish to take this matter further, if you to have had enough and are frustrated you need to call today tonight so they have a case, and they can show it live on t.v as we don't want other people experiencing the same problem that we have. This problem is only fixable on some cars i have the same problem and have had for a very long time now if you are experiencing the same problem i advise you to ring today tonight and tell them your story as i am taking this matter further it is just not good enough. Some cars are fixable and soem aren't and i am one of the unlucky ones also.
