I'm a student, but I've been working for the past few months and earned 1240. I've been on the BR tax code, because the inland revenue don't seem in a rush to change it, and so I've paid 270 tax and 60 national insurance.
I finish my job next week and hopefully the tax code will finally be sorted by then and I'll get the money back. How much of the tax that I've paid will I get back if I'm in full time education?
If you send your P45 (make sure you keep your copy) in to the tax office with a covering letter as soon as you get it, they should refund you the tax. If you are planning to work over the summer holidays however, you need to let them know. If the code is altered before you leave, you may still not get all the tax back (depends on what it is altered to) and so you would have to contact the tax office anyway.
