Is there a keyboard shortcut to get to the desktop when there are loads of windows open?
is there a shortcut to trigger the screensaver without waiting however many minutes for it to start itself?
anyone know of any other interesting/handy shortcuts?

If you are using XP and have a Windows keyboard, pressing Win with M will minimise all windows to access the desktop.
My Win key is between Ctrl and Alt.

You can create an icon on your desktop to quickly activate your screensaver:

In case you can't see the screensaver one:
1. Click start and 'search'.
2. In the search box click 'all files and folders'.
3. In the box that pops up, type *.scr then click search
4. A list of screensavers will appear in the box. You can preview them by double clicking on each one.
When you find the one you want, right click on the file - send to - desktop.
And that should be it. There will be an icon on your desktop that will immediately start the screensaver.
