rise in young male suicides
28 Answers
there appears to be a rise in young men committing suicide .
this was shown to extreme in northern ireland where 3 young boys have hung themseklves in three weeks.
they come from a small village with only a population of 600.
though on the whole male suicides are on the rise all over the uk.
does society put too much pressure on young kids to succeed or is a lot of it down to peer pressure?
ive read that the boys were all members of a chat site and theres a suspicion theyve done this for a sort of martyrdom.
2 of the lads hung themselves from the same lamppost too.
sad state of affairs.

I am just giving my opinion.
Its not that they hate everything when someone says something that you dont agree with legend.
I know you have strong feelings on your posts, but you should accept people are different and dont all agree with you.
Now dont go doing anything stupid just because i am not your favourite person...

Thank you for the link legend. That is a very strange occurance. I know that suicide among young men is increasing all the time and particulary in N I but these young men don't fit the 'norm' (I use that term very loosely), in that they all attended the same school and I presume were of similar ages, hence I can understand why martyrdom and the websites have been mentioned. Whatever the cause, it is extremely sad and a tragic waste of lives.
In your question you ask whether society puts too much pressure on young kids or whether it is peer pressure that drives some of them to suicide.
The most straight-forward answer seems to be a rise in mental health problems. Only today we hear of a report that claims 1 in 10 children has a mental health issue that will affect them in their lives. In some cases, without specific help, this will inevitably lead to suicide.
I believe that people who commit suicide, and I have known a few although Id like to think that was not a factor are taking that last step towards a decision that they are already capable of. Some people can and some people cant, however some people are driven to it through enforced circumstances such as a breakdown, abuse or bullying, and this identifies a sense of helplessness, not necessarily pressure. Mental health issues which drive someone to suicide is of course a sorry state of affairs, but so is the aftermath and the feelings, faux culpability and sense of compunction that close friends and relatives are left to deal with.
